The whole idea of owning a clock is so you can keep track of time – but many of the people who make clocks are trapped in the past, designing a whole host of boring wooden and gaudy metallic pieces that clash with our modern interiors.
What's more, such clocks are usually as fragile as they are visually offensive. But Semk Design, creators of the new Tofu Table Clock, realise that we want funk as well as functionality.
The Tofu Table Clock combines a virtual kaleidoscope of wild colours and groovy designs, making for innovative timepieces that not only look great but run like clockwork too. In fact, as the name suggests, the Tofu Table Clock looks good enough to eat – it's delicious eye candy for any room of the house.
Wrapped in vinyl, the clocks are as soft to the touch as silken firm tofu, but are far more popular with meat-eaters. There's also a red/pink model, which looks like a marshmallow made from soft fleece – a sweet addition to the boudoir or desk.
The Tofu Table Clock's three-dimensional cube shape's also a great alternative to the dull-dimensional form of most other clocks. At about 90mm square, this clock's small enough to fit anywhere you like, but bold enough to make a big fashion statement.
