Session Length:

The weekend workshops run from 10am to 4pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. We will down tools and break for lunch on both days. Bring a picnic lunch and go to the park or check out a great King St café. Tea, coffee and juice provided.

Guidelines:

No restrictions, although not targeted to those under 16. You need average strength in your hands to use tile nippers but it is not hard. All materials are included in this price.

Dress Code:

Mosaicing can get messy so wear comfortable old clothes. You will receive a detailed 'to bring' list on enrolment.

Your artist/tutor is a Sydney based mosaic artist who has studied her craft in London, Italy and Sydney. Her enthusiasm for the art of mosaic is infectious and her professionally run workshops do not disappoint.

Learn the versatile yet ancient art of mosaic making in a relaxed and creative environment of an artist?s working studio. The Beginners workshop choices are either in Stained Glass Mosaics or working in the more traditional vitreous glass mosaic tile. Most importantly, in both these workshops you will get inspired and get creative.

Day 1 usually commences with an enthusiastic interactive session when participants decide on the design for their mosaic piece. There are loads of inspirational images to get those creative juices flowing and your tutor?s experience can guide you in choosing a design that is manageable yet challenging for your first mosaic learning experience. To start, a session on some ancient rules and mosaic traditions provides students with a good foundation on the principles and techniques of mosaic art and construction methods. "Hands on" happens before lunch with everyone participating in some tile/glass cutting practice. You then get to dip your hands into the wonderful jars filled with coloured tiles to choose the colour palette for your masterpiece.

Day two continues with working on your mosaic as your tutor continues to run you through more of the technical know how. Comprehensive course notes are provided and you?ll go home with your own beautiful mosaic and lots of knowledge and enthusiasm to start mosaic no. 2 & set up a workspace at home. Tuition and materials are included.
